Mahindra explores the small vehicle category

The country’s biggest manufacturer of Sport models Mahindra and Mahindra is now exploring new avenues in the small vehicle segment.  The main reason for the company to dwell into this segment is the cut-throat competition that is only increasing in the SUV segment. The launch of Duster has enhanced the competition; the launch of the Ford EcoSport has created a tense atmosphere for the company.

Mahindra Verito Vibe Blue

The SUV segment was among the most dominant a year ago, the smaller models have witnessed lesser sale figures this year. The main hurdle for Mahindra is the stiff competition with companies where small models are sold in dozens, such as Hyundai Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India. The buying power is the main area that can increase sales of small models.

The company recently released the much awaited Vibe model of Verito; the Verito is one of the premium luxury models in car industry. The Vibe is a compact hatch version of the Verito and is offered at consumer centric prices of Rs 5.63 lakhs which is also the most reasonable among passenger models. Company officials of Mahindra have announced that the Vibe is an important figure to compete with the highly competitive small vehicle segment.

Mahindra is appreciated for its sport utility vehicles in the country, but unfortunately the sale soured at 48% during this financial year which terminated in the March month from the earlier figure of 56%. This data was released by the prestigious institution of SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers). The company has a gain of below 1% in the passenger vehicle segment which is exclusive of vans and utility models. According to few analysts, Mahindra will have to create a higher figure of SUV’s to maintain a balanced profit sheet, and also sustain the fierce competition from other players than build small models.

The dominant car players which will enhance the sky rocketing competition for Mahindra is Nissan Motor Co of Japan and Ford Motor Co. Both these firms are likely to release Sport models sometime this year.

Mahindra will have to bank on the first venture into a below four meter model called Verito Vibe. The car is designed with a creative theme of a three box design, and is a compact hatch version of sedan. The car is designed with a dominant 1.5 liter diesel and 1.2 liter petrol engine. The overall design of the car is artistic to attract the young and white collared demographic. The Vibe is designed with an interesting theme to cater to the young and vibrant socially aware population in India.

Mahindra will face stiff competition with the Vibe with some of the impressive models of Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki. The body of the Vibe is arty and unmatched, and hence customers would prefer this model because of the classic design itself. It would be interesting to observe more launches of Mahindra in the small car segment. The company was able to sustain a robust position in SUV segment for years, and Mahindra is most likely to grab a strong foothold in the small vehicle segment as well since the company employs effective strategies to preserve its image.

Mahindra Verito Vibe prepares to lock horns with the Volkswagen Polo

Mahindra & Mahindra, the country’s leading Utility Vehicle manufacturer is making its entry into the passenger car market of India with its new hatchback, the Verito Vibe. Earlier the car was thought to be a compact Verito based sedan, but later was revealed to be a premium hatchback to compete with the premium hatchbacks in the market. This new car is developed by slashing out the boot of the original Verito sedan and comes with a shortened rear end. This new quality car would arrive on 5th June 2013, to lock horns with prominent cars in the premium hatchback sector, one of which is the Volkswagen Polo.

Mahindra Verito Vibe Blue Color

Volkswagen Polo appeals to the Indian audience with an attractive and sleek exterior design that features a powerful grille and stylish headlights. The car comes with body colored door handles and ORVMs. The headlamps come with integrated front turn indicators. The top trim of the car comes with front and rear fog lamps integrated on the bumpers, while a spoiler is placed high at the back of the vehicle, which has a centrally mounted brake light, meant for approaching cars. The paint and finish of the Volkswagen Polo has superior quality. The German auto major has made the car premium in the true sense.

The Mahindra Verito Vibe, on the other hand looks similar to the popular Verito sedan when the front fascia of the car is concerned. Its wide grille gives the car a mean powerful appearance. While the car’s sides and back design seems to be quite less as to the superior styling of the Polo.

Under the hood, the Polo has 4 engine and 2 transmission options. The two petrol engine options consist of the 1198cc and the 1197 cc, while the two Diesel engines are 1199 cc and 1598 cc. While the 7-speed automatic transmission is exclusive with the new 1.2 GT TSI Polo with 1197 cc petrol engine, the others get a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Verito Vibe comes with a sole 1.5 liter diesel motor with maximum power of 64 Bhp and torque of 160 Nm, lesser than any Polo trims. The car will also have no petrol variants, making the Polo with more choices.

Moreover, the Mahindra Verito Vibe’s rear design looks very different that seem even awkward. The wide C-pillar and tail lights running all through the rear windscreen, the design might not appeal to all with its rectangular design.

Comparatively, the back end of the Polo definitely looks more appealing and well defined.

On the inside, both the Vibe and Polo are much alike. However, the Mahindra Vibe might provide slight larger space owing to its Verito sedan platform.

The Verito Vibe is expected to be priced around Rs. 5.30 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh, while the Polo costs between Rs. 4.82 lakh and Rs. 8.03 lakh. Thus, price and option-wise the Polo certainly offers more.

Mahindra has not yet announced the variants that the Verito Vibe will be hitting the market with.

The key areas that will lure buyers to this model are the stylish sporty appeal.’’

The car was publicized to a great length weeks before the actual launch next month. The spy images revealed the car to be a compact hatch with a neat boot. The most interesting aspect of this model is tailored with two segments than the regular trimmed car image of the Dzire and Tata Indigo eCS.

There are huge tail lights on the windscreen at the rear mounted on C pillar, the doors and other panels will however be identical to the original Verito sedan. The car will be incorporated with a powerful 1.5 liter K9K engine that generates impressive efficiencies of 68bhp. The Verito hatch and sedan are almost identical with respect to overall body weight. The company will not launch a petrol model of the trendy Vibe hatch, since petrol power trains are not fitted in below four meter regulation policies.

The Vibe is sculpted with admirable features; the most interesting aspect about the launch of this model is this is Mahindra first exploration into the compact hatch segment. This is indeed excellent news for Mahindra and car fans, since Mahindra cars are incredibly popular with the young and sporty population. Mahindra Verito Vibe

Those who have been following the various news about the Mahindra Verito Vibe, already knows that it shares most of the body parts and design with its sedan sibling Verito. When the Verito Vibe’s test mule’s design was flashed on the internet, the auto enthusiasts were quite taken aback, as the car’s rear design looked somewhat awkward that might not appeal to everyone. The pictures of the new Verito Vibe showed that the car will come with an exterior styling that is very similar to the original Verito sedan, however the rear of the car has unusual wide C pillars and the back seems to have joined the roof pretty abruptly. This clearly indicates Mahindra’s chop-shop job on the car rather than investing much to redesign it.

Others however believe that a company like Mahindra must have thought before turning up with this design and it might be the result of the design inspiration from Ford. It is still not known which of these thoughts is actually true, and how the Indian audience will react to this rear design of the car. It can be told only when the car hits the markets.

Once the Verito Vibe is launched, it will be locking horns primarily with the extremely popular B segment hatchbacks such as the Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20. As the launch is just few days away, the Mahindra dealership outlets all over India are already receiving the first batch of the Verito Vibe units. Spotted at a New Delhi dealership outlet, the Vibe looks all ready to take on the competition of the Indian car market.

Owing to its sub-4 meter length and low development cost, the Verito Vibe hatchback is expected to have a competitive tag of around Rs. 5.5 to 6 lakh. The Mahindra Vibe will be powered by the potent 1.5 liter Renault K9K diesel engine that runs the Verito Sedan as well as many other cars.

The Verito Vibe hatchback marks Mahindra’s entry in the popular sub 4 metre segment.
